      Oxwich Bay is another top dog friendly beach in south Wales. Gower Coast NNR is part-owned by the National Trust, and the nature reserve is managed jointly by Natural Resources Wales (NRW) and the National Trust.

Directions Grid Ref: SS Rhosili Car Park (Western end of the NNR): From Swansea take the A road towards Killay and Parkmill and continue through Nicholaston and Knelston.

NNR – National Nature Reserves - there are three on the peninsula. Ramsar Site – Ramsar sites are designated under the International Convention on Wetlands of International Importance especially as Waterfowl Habitats.

The is one Ramsar site in the Gower area, the Burry Estuary. About Gower Coast National Nature Reserve This nature reserve has a lovely beach served by a good path from the car park. The tidal island of Worm's Head and the south-facing cliffs on the mainland that are home to some very special plants, birds and other wildlife.

The following reserves are collectively known as the South Gower Coast Reserves and stretch between the outreaching parts of Rhossili (Pilton Green) and Port Eynon.

They are owned by the National Trust and managed by the Wildlife Trust of South and West Wales. Oxwich National Nature Reserve is situated on the south coast of Gower, just 11 miles from Swansea.

The reserve is made up of a bewitching mix of beach, sand dunes, lakes, woodlands, cliffs and salt and freshwater marshes – in fact, it’s rare to have so many different habitats in.

Status Part of the South Gower Coast SSSI, which in turn is part of the European Natura site, the Limestone Sea Cliffs of South West Wales SAC. Tenure The reserve was purchased by the Trust in July with financial assistance from Marks and Spencers plc.

Nature Reserves on the South Coast KZN Lake Eland Game Reserve, Tel. The south Gower coast hosts many rare plants and birds including yellow whitlow grass and choughs. From the National Trust shop and Visitor Centre in Rhosili there is a level walk along the grassy cliff top to the Old Coastguard on: Rhosili, SA3 1PR, Swansea.

Gower’s richly varied natural environment of heath, grassland, fresh and saltwater marsh, dunes and oak woodland, is internationally important. The AONB has five Special Areas of Conservation, three National Nature Reserves, two Local Nature Reserves and many Sites of Special Scientific Interest.
